he symposium will run from lunchtime on Thursday 11th to lunchtime on Friday 12th September. There will be 9 papers presented in a single stream, each one accompanied by a discussant. If you are intending to come and are interested in being a discussant, then please send me an email with a brief description of your research interests.

3rd IMARN workshop – Oct 17th, 2014.

Registration for the third IMARN workshop is now open.  It takes place on Friday Oct 17th, and CPA Ireland have again been most kind in offering us a room. Simply click here to register. As always we welcome papers/presentations at any stage of development once the topic is management accounting/management control related (including topics on information systems and sustainability with a management accounting focus). MARG – call for papers

See below a call for papers for annual MARG conference:




20 and 21 November 2014




This is the first call for the annual MARG / MCA conference, to be held on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st November, 2014 at Aston Business School, Birmingham. Papers are invited that address any area of research and practice into management accounting or management control. Papers addressing the application, or refinement, of management accounting/control processes and techniques in practical settings are encouraged. Papers from practitioners in such settings are especially welcome.


The conference will commence at 10.30am on the first day and will consist of plenary presentations. Presenters will include a number of high profile contributors to the management accounting literature. Speakers at last year’s conference included Professors Paolo Quatrone, Bob Scapens and Martin Messner.


The first day ends with a conference dinner where delegates will have the opportunity to meet and discuss their research interests and practice developments in a relaxed setting. The second day will consist of parallel sessions and is planned to be especially appealing to early career researchers, many of whom may still be completing their PhD.


Full papers (or extended abstracts) should be submitted to the organisers by 15th Sep 2014.

For the plenary presentations preference will be given to full papers.

Delegates will be required to pay a conference registration fee of £99. This will include lunch on both days, refreshments and conference dinner. This fee does not include accommodation.

MCA / MACORG/ Belgian-Dutch symposium

Below is a call for paper from the Management Control Association – thanks to Dr Julia Mundy.

 Our annual two-day symposium this year will take place at ESCP Europe, Paris from 11-12 September 2014 (approx. lunchtime 11th to early afternoon 12th). This year, for the first time, the symposium will consist of three groups: MACORG (France), colleagues based in Belgium and The Netherlands, and MCA. We are very grateful to our colleagues at ESCP Europe for hosting this event.


In line with our usual format, papers will be presented by members of each group, followed by a discussant from one of the other two groups. If you wish to submit a paper for consideration, please note the following deadlines:


10th May: extended abstracts of 500-750 words or full papers to be sent as follows:
members of MACORG – to
colleagues based in Belgium or The Netherlands – to
all other submissions – to


end of May – authors to be advised of decision


15th June: deadline for offer to be a discussant, with any specific interests (same contacts as above)


7th July: deadline for full papers, which will be forwarded to the discussants before they depart for the summer period


Further details on the programme, location, etc will be available at a later date.


Please note that participants will be required to pay for transport to ESCP Europe, accommodation, and taxi transfers between airport or station.

ACMAR 2014

The Annual Conference for Management Accounting Research (ACMAR) takes place at WHU in Vallendar, Germany. Now in its 11th year, the 2014 conference is on March 13th and 14th. It’s a great venue and there is also a doctoral colloquium on March 12/13. You can read more here. Vallendar is about 1 hour from Frankfurt, so it’s easy to reach. The submission deadline for papers is January 15th, 2014.

27th Annual IAFA Conference 2014
Call for Papers

Queen’s University, Belfast will host the 27th annual conference of the Irish Accounting & Finance Association on 29th/30th May, 2014 at its Riddel Hall campus. The deadline for completed papers/abstracts is 28th February, 2014. Empirical, theoretical and review papers are welcomed in all areas of accounting and finance. We are pleased to announce that our plenary speaker at this year’s conference is the Joint Editor of Critical Perspectives on Accounting, Professor Christine Cooper, Strathclyde University.

Decisions on acceptances of papers will be communicated by 11th April, 2014. Accepted papers will only be included on the conference schedule where registration and payment has been received from at least one author by 30th April, 2014 (see for further details).

BAFA – call for papers

Call for papers for BAFA’s 50th Annual Conference
London School of Economics and Political Science
Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 April 2014

The British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) is pleased to announce that its 50th Annual Conference will take place from Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 April 2014 at the London School of Economics and Political Science in central London. This event is preceded by the BAFA Doctoral Conference, also at LSE, on Sunday 13 and part of Monday 14 April 2014.
